What We Do

The Turning Point WDB:

•serves as a point of contact for business, industry and the public sector to communicate their workforce needs;
•provides a forum where private and public sector leaders jointly consider the workforce development needs of the region;
•promotes strategies to encourage life-long learning and improve workplace skills;
•assists in the development of new training programs to benefit the region's workforce;
•conducts planning, oversight, and evaluation of local workforce development programs, including the local JobLink Career Center System;
•offers advice regarding workforce policy and programs to local elected officials, employers, education and employment agencies, and citizens;
•coordinates with economic development efforts and activities to promote the region's availability of qualified workers and promote cooperation and coordination among public organization, education agencies, and private businesses; and
•reviews local agency plans and grant applications for workforce development programs to ensure coordination of services and achievement of local goals can be attained. 

Vision

The counties of the northern 1-95 corridor will have a highly skilled workforce that can help local firms compete in a technologically advanced global marketplace. The region's workforce will have wages above the state average and educational attainment levels above the state average.

Provide a workforce that answers the demands of a transforming knowledge and skills driven economy.


Values/Belief Statements

We believe that:

•The role of the WDB is to help create a competitive workforce in this region.
•Our success depends on collaborating with economic development and educational entities to ensure that workers enter the workplace at a comparative advantage and that the region continues to create new career opportunities.
•To improve the quality of life and well being of this region, we must work closely with area companies to ensure that they demand and receive highly trained, skilled workers.Our efforts must be to help increase the average wages and benefits available to all workers in the region.
•To improve their standard of living, those at greatest risk of falling behind economically must have priority access to training opportunities.
•With limited resources, we must make choices about how training resources are invested to ensure that these public investments have the greatest economic impact on our region.

Strategies/Initiatives:

•Develop and promote the WDB and its services/activities.
•Engage business and community volunteers in the work of the board.
•Develop and promote strategies designed to improve workplace skills.
